Five-year-old Kaya Sanders was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a brain tumor that interferes with all bodily functions. It is inoperable and as the tumor progresses, it also interferes with breathing and heartbeat, which ultimately results in the child’s death. Kaya was given 3 to 12 months to live when diagnosed and outlived that time frame by more than a year.
